February 20 – Clean Up Australia Day comes to Strathfield

20 February 2014

Australia’s largest community participation event, Clean Up Australia Day, returns in 2014. Strathfield residents will have the opportunity to join thousands of people hitting the streets, beaches and parks in a combined effort to keep Australia’s landscape clean.

Strathfield Council is calling for volunteers to meet at Cooke Park, Belfield to help clean up the natural areas of Strathfield. All local residents are encouraged to lend a hand, and enjoy a free lunch at the end of the event.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Daniel Bott believes residents play an important role in keeping the community clean.

“Often we don’t realise the impact we have on the environment in our day to day lives. Strathfield residents are fortunate to live in a beautiful area, and it is up to us to keep it that way,” said Cr Bott.

“Clean Up Australia Day is the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together and help clean up our local parks and streets and think about how we can reduce our impact on the environment.”

Anyone and everyone can get involved, simply go to www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au to register as a volunteer or meet at the end of Chisholm Street, Cooke Park, Belfield from 9:30am on March 2 to participate in this great event. Bags and gloves will be provided, participants should wear comfortable clothing, footwear and sun protection.
