February 17 – Strathfield Seniors Week activities

17 February 2012

Strathfield Council has begun taking registrations for the popular program of Seniors Week activities from March 18-25.

The focus for Seniors Week 2012 will be offering activities and information to help keep seniors independent for as long as possible. Strathfield Council will host a number of events including a seniors expo and tour of Strathfield station, tai chi, origami, free performance from the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra, a luncheon with entertainment and sing a longs with the Golden Girls plus courses and workshops with partner organisations and even a game of cricket.

With hundreds of events planned under the LIVE LIFE banner, NSW Seniors Week is one of the biggest celebrations for seniors in the southern hemisphere.

“Seniors Week is a great opportunity for seniors in the community to come together and share social occasions. It also serves as an appropriate time for Council to acknowledge those seniors who make up such a strong component of our community,“ said Mayor of Strathfield, Paul Barron.

Many of the events on offer are free, with some requiring a small registration fee. Transport will be made available for most events for those unable to make the trip to the venue.

Registrations for activities are now being taken, and to make sure that everyone enjoys some of the activities, ticket allocation will be by ballot if an event is overbooked.

To register for Seniors Week activities and for more information, contact Council’s Community Services Coordinator on 9748 9912.
