12 December 2012

Strathfield Council’s annual Christmas Carols event, held in conjunction with Strathfield Rotary has raised $3,000 for The Salvation Army Streetlevel Mission as part of the Christmas Appeal.

The Christmas Carols event saw a strong turnout from the Strathfield community who came along to enjoy children’s activities, carols, an appearance from Santa Claus followed by a movie on the big screen and a huge fireworks display.

All proceeds from the Strathfield Rotary sausage sizzle and the other food and beverages sold on the night as well as the glowsticks for sale were collected, along with the funds from Rotary’s raffle to be provided to The Salvation Army.

Along with the funds, Council has called for presents and gifts for children to be donated to the Christmas Appeal which will also be provided to the Salvos.

The cheque for $3,000 and a range of gifts will be supplied to The Salvation Army as part of their Streetlevel Mission which provides a meal and gifts to those in need on Christmas Day each year.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari said the appeal was for a very worthy cause.\

“It was great to see this year’s Christmas Appeal go to such a worthy cause as The Salvation Army. I would like to thank the community of Strathfield who came along to enjoy the carols and who gave to this appeal – your support at Christmas time is a great show of generosity,” Cr Vaccari said.
