*UPDATE*

Subsequent to this release there have been further developments in the proceedings that need to be resolved. The Minister for Local Government has also released a media statement that includes:

“… Due to a legal technicality in the Delegate’s report on the proposed merger of Strathfield, Burwood, and Canada Bay councils, the Delegate will consider the matter and reissue the report…”

MEDIA RELEASE

During the court proceedings in the Land and Environment Court this morning, the Crown Solicitor advised the court that the Minister has consented to an order being made which effectively prevents the current merger proposal of Strathfield, Burwood and Canada Bay from proceeding.

“I am pleased with this announcement and it justifies the actions of our Council to take up the fight on behalf of our community” said Mayor Sang Ok.
