Council receives $36,707 grant for restoration of Davey Square memorial

Strathfield Council has been awarded $36,707 in grant funding from the Australian Government to restore the World War 1 memorial in Davey Square, Strathfield.

The grant funding is part of the Anzac Centenary Grant programme; designed to fund community projects that recognise the contribution of servicemen and women who served during the First World War.

Craig Laundy MP, Federal Member for Reid and Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson, Minister for Veteran Affairs, joined Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari, residents from the local community and members of the Reid Anzac Committee in Davey Square to announce the funding.

Cr Vaccari said the project was an important one for the local community in the lead up to Anzac Day centenary celebrations.

“The Davey Square Memorial is an integral part of how Strathfield residents commemorate Anzac Day,” said Cr Vaccari.

“It is very poignant that this grant has been received in the centenary year of the Gallipoli conflict where so many thousands of Australians gave their lives so we could live better ones.”
