Council and the Attorney General Light up Homebush West

The streets of Homebush West will increase in safety with the granting of $30,000 to Strathfield Council from the Office of the Attorney General NSW.
The grant will see the installation of 5 light poles on Courallie Avenue, Homebush West, a popular area with train commuters.
The Attorney General NSW, Mark Speakman, said of the project “The footpaths in these areas are popular with train commuters but they’re poorly lit by night and have become crime hotspots. Improving lighting and clearing overgrown vegetation will discourage stealing, graffiti, assault and rubbish dumping and make it easier for police and the community to detect criminal activity.”
Strathfield LGA is currently fourth in the state for steal from person incidents. It is hoped the added street lighting will see a decrease in these incidents as well as malicious damage to property, theft from motor vehicles and assaults.
Strathfield Mayor, Cr Gulian Vaccari, welcomed the news stating “the safety of our residents is of the upmost importance to Council, and with an increasing population we are seeing the need for more infrastructure to support this. We are pleased the Attorney General recognises this and thank him for his support.”
The installation of the new light poles will begin in the new year.
