Cooks River Fun Run entries open now

2 April 2015

Entries are now open for the Cooks River Fun Run, back for its 6th year on Sunday 21 June. The event starts at Freshwater Park in Strathfield, and offers 5km and 10km races, as well as a 5km walk and 2km Kids Run.

Early bird entries are open online until June 5. Register before then to receive the special discounted price of $25 for adults and $20 for children for the 5km, and $30 for adults and $25 for children for the 10km. The 2km Kids Run for children aged 12 and under is just $15.

The Cooks River Fun Run has grown significantly since it commenced in 2010, and Strathfield Council is aiming for record numbers in 2015.

The event is popular with runners looking to test their fitness in the lead up to some of Sydney’s biggest races. The flat course is certified by Athletics Australia, meaning this event can be used to qualify for other races.

The 2km Kids Run and 5km walk provide options for the whole family, making it a great, active morning for the local community.

New in 2015, participants can team up with a partner and enter a 10km relay.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari is encouraging residents to put on their running shoes and join in the fun.

“Strathfield Council is pleased to host an event which encourages a healthy and active lifestyle,” Cr Vacarri said.

“The event has something for everyone, whether you are running competitively, aiming to improve your fitness or just want to spend time outdoors with family and friends. I look forward to seeing many runners and walkers enjoying an active Sunday morning along the Cooks River.”

For the third year in a row, the event is supporting Bowel Cancer Australia, with $5 from each entry donated to assist with research and awareness for this important cause.
