Strathfield Council develops, coordinates and evaluates the provision of accessible high quality services to meet the diverse needs of children, young people and their families within the Strathfield Local Government Area.
Some of the programs and activities for children and young people in Strathfield include:
School Holiday Programs
Every School Holiday period, Council offers programs for children and young people aged 5-12 years. The programs usually run for two weeks four times a year and offer activities such as sporting clinics, art & craft workshops, excursions, music and dance workshops and events.
Council is involved in organising a number of community events such as Children's Week, as well as participating in consultative forums such as the Families NSW interagency.
See Council’s Calendar of Events for more details on community events.
Strathfield Council has 27 playgrounds located in parks and reserves throughout the Municipality. These playgrounds are designed for many different age groups, and each playground provides a different range of activities for its users. Improvements and maintenance aim to ensure that playgrounds meet a diverse range of current and future community needs including specific age groups and people with disabilities.
Go4Fun is a healthy program for children aged 7-13 and are above a healthy weight.
Strathfield Youth Film Project
A council initiative working with local students to create videos from Council events. To view the videos visit our YouTube channel. Many schools were involved in this project and captured some excellent footage from a range of Council events.

Think, Eat and Move
‘Think, Eat and Move’ (TEAM), is an eight-week, evidence-based healthy lifestyle program for adolescents (13-17 years old) that are ‘above a healthy weight’. The three core components of the program focus on nutrition, physical activity and behaviour change, to improve their physical activity and eating habits and ultimately achieve a healthier, happier and fitter lifestyle for the teen. The program has been designed by health psychologists, dietitians and exercise professionals and aligns with the Australian dietary guidelines and the Australian guidelines for physical activity and sedentary behaviour.
The teenager also is provided with various freebies that enhance their health journey and increase motivation, including a Garmin Vivo Fitness tracker watch, a label reading card, a ‘meal-mate’ (serving size cup), drink bottle, handout book and measuring equipment, as well as incentives when completing goals (in the form of a voucher to a health-related shop upon completion of the program) – all for free!
