The importance of managing our precious water resource is a topic of which we are all well aware, an increasing population, severe drought and dams at record lows set the scene for what is an increasingly import issue. A reduction in water consumption at every level of society is required to conserve Australia’s water resource.
Sustainable water strategy and what Council is doing to save water
Strathfield Council believes that we have an opportunity as a water user within the region to lead by example adopting sound water management techniques. One such measure council has undertaken is the process of creating a water conservation strategy as a part of a broader Sustainable Water Program.
Council has committed under the plan to reduce water consumption in the following facilities:
- Hudson Park Golf Course
- Kurralee Childcare Centre
- Mason Park
- Cooke Park
- Airey Park
- Strathfield Children’s Centre
- Strathfield Park
- Bark Huts Reserve
- Community Centre and Pre School
- Strathfield Bowling and Recreation Club
- Strathfield Library
- Strathfield Council Depot
- Strathfield Council Administration Centre and Town Hall
Various water sensitive techniques will be employed ranging from the installation of water tanks, use of waterless urinals, staff training and awareness of water conservation, and making alterations to operation procedures.
Water for Life Campaign
Council has been successful in its application for funding through the NSW Government’s Water for Life Education Program. The program run by the Department of Water & Energy aims to engage the community to use water wisely and increase recycling by highlighting Council’s achievements in the area of water conservation.
