Cooks River Freshwater Park Project

The Cooks River Freshwater Park Revegetation and Maintenance Project 2005-2007 builds on Strathfield Council’s existing Cooks River Restoration Project. The Cooks River Restoration Project aimed to rehabilitate an important green corridor within Freshwater Park, Strathfield. The project involved the stabilisation of the riverbanks and the riverbed using ecologically sensitive techniques including natural rock and re-vegetation.

The current Revegetation and Maintenance Project compliments the existing project and aims to enhance the area through weed removal and replanting of local provenance vegetation to further stabilise soils, to filter nutrients and sediment, and to provide important habitat for aquatic and terrestrial fauna by increasing the density of riparian vegetation and removing sediment.
