Strathfield Municipal Council

Organisational Sustainability

The Triple Bottom Line (TBL) is a planning, reporting and decision-making framework that aims to achieve sustainable development. TBL provides a framework for measuring and reporting our performance against economic, social and environmental parameters. At its broadest, the term is used to capture the whole set of values, issues and processes that Council must address in order to minimise any harm resulting from our activities and to create economic, social and environmental value.

As an organisation whose purpose is to protect the health and wellbeing of our community, protect and enhance the environment and deliver quality services to our community, it makes sense to plan and measure Council’s performance not only using economic parameters but also in terms of how we protect and create economic, social and environmental value.

Strathfield Council is one of only 15 Councils in Australia participating in the ICLEI Sustainability Services (ISS) developing plans to incorporate sustainability and triple bottom line principles into the planning, decision-making and reporting practices of local government.
