In 2009 Council completed a comprehensive Vertebrate Fauna Study of parks and reserves within the Strathfield Municipality. The objective of the study was to provide an assessment of the variety of wildlife in our community and to provide recommendations of how to enhance biodiversity.
A key finding of the study found that Mason Park Wetlands and its surrounding vegetation is the most species-rich reserve within the Strathfield area. This result was largely due to the presence of migratory shorebirds that arrive during spring and summer.
