About Matthews Park
Matthews Park is located on Roberts Road and within a primarily industrial area. Matthews Park is a large park which provides open space for informal recreational activities and one of Strathfield Municipality's leash free areas.
History
The land on which Matthews Park is built was acquired by the former Enfield Council in 1923 and was used for many years as a Sanitary Depot. This area was added to Strathfield Council in 1949. In 1951, Council dedicated the land as a public park and recreational area. Matthews Park is named after James Sandry Matthews, former Town Clerk of Strathfield Council (Reference: Jones, C. Parks, Reserves & Memorials, 2004)
