Aims and Objectives

The core aims of the project is to:
  • Deliver a Masterplan to facilitate the redesign and gradual redevelopment of Strathfield Town Centre in a sustainable manner - socially; economically, ecologically and physically.
  • Develop a 'centred' town centre that is active, lively and people orientated, and builds on its spatial/physical characteristics, as well as its distinct land uses in and around the town centre.
  • Develop policies and promotional strategies that will encourage a diverse range of businesses in the town centre, ensuring that these uses are viable and complement those in the surrounding region and connects with them.

The objectives of the Masterplan include:

  • Developing a 'centred' town centre, focused around its public squares
  • Reinforcing Strathfield Square as a vibrant and accessible public space
  • Reinforcing The Boulevarde as a vibrant 'main street'
  • Improving streetscape and public area aesthetics and character
  • Developing a town centre with commercially viable land uses, zonings, classification, height hierarchy and densities
  • Providing a sustainable town centre with uses that complement those in the surrounding region and connects with them
  • Setting economically feasible and practical recommendations and solutions
  • Establishing a town centre that responds to the demands and needs of the growth and development of the Parramatta Road corridor including access to transport infrastructure and the retail, commercial and urban open space facilities that a vibrant town centre can provide
  • Defining the functional relationship between the north and south parts of the rail line
  • Visually integrating the north and south parts of the town centre
  • Providing an active, safe pedestrian connection between the north and south parts of the rail line
  • Improving pedestrian access from the station to the Strathfield Plaza and retail areas to the south
  • Improving pedestrian, cycle and public transportability of the town centre
  • Improving taxi ranks, bus stops and vehicular drop off layout
  • Improving vehicular car parking access, quantity of spaces and availability, and
  • Assessing public and open space availability, demand and opportunities.
