The winners of the 2008 Strathfield Council Heritage Conservation Awards are as follows:
St Patricks College, Brother Hickey Building Francis St Strathfield
Works undertaken included restoration and adaptive reuse of the original 1928 Brother Hickey building including conversion of 6 classrooms into new administration facilities, new Board room and offices. Works also involved addition of new lawns leading to the Brother Hickey Building.
Awarded for Superior renovation, restoration and adaptive reuse of the Brother Hickey Building including sympathetic additions, colour schemes, decorating and landscaping
14 Florence St Strathfield
Victorian style cottage. Works undertaken include: sympathetic 2 storey alterations and additions including new dining area (at first floor level of original dwelling), new laundry, bathroom, study, rumpus room (rear ground level) & main bedroom, walk in robe & ensuite (at rear upper level). Proposal also involves new pool in location of existing pool including new paved areas & construction of a new roofed outdoor eating area.
Repair & restoration work has also been undertaken to the original dwelling including: repair of cracks & interior painting of hallway & doorways, replaster & repainting of bedrooms, exterior painting including windows, verandah & sides of building, repairs to slate roof & chimney.
The Award Citation was for ‘Superior and sympathetic renovations and additions to a heritage listed Victorian style villa.’
19 Nichol Parade Strathfield “Glengary”
Federation style dwelling has undergone major restoration works both internal and external. Works undertaken include: Internal and external painting, new timber flooring, internal lighting, new carpet, vanities,showers, tiling of bathroom, external rendering.
The Award citation was for superior additions, alterations and renovations to a Federation style house.
Australian Catholic University, Edmund Rice Building 25A Barker Rd Strathfield
Restoration of Edmund Rice Administration Centre. originally known as the Mount Royal Building constructed in 1887. Works include: repair & reconstruction of the verandah structures including reconstruction of timber columns & refurbishment of cast iron columns & balustrading, replacement of gutters & downpipes & upgrade of stormwater system, underpinning of footings to arrest settlement of the bay window, painting & decorating of the exterior.
Awarded for outstanding heritage conservation and restoration of the Edmund Rice Building (Mount Royal), an important heritage listed item in Strathfield Municipality.
