The largest age groups in Strathfield in 2006 were people in the 20–24 years age group followed by the 25-29 years age group. Over 33% of the population is between 10-29 years of age.
Between 2001 and 2006 there has been a slight decrease across a most age groups but an increase in the 25-29 age group followed by the 20-24 age groups.
When compared to Sydney, Strathfield had a greater number of people between the ages of 20-29 and a slight increase in the number of people between 10-19 years, 45-49 years, 75-79 years and 85and over. Strathfield had fewer people between the ages of 0-9, 30-39, 50-74 and 80-84.
There is a shifting between the female and male population with slightly more males between the ages 0-29 and 55-64 with a small increase of female increase between 30-54 years. From 65 years there were more females with a sharp increase in the female population from 85 years of age where there are double the numbers of females to males.
There is a sharp increase in the population of Strathfield between 2001 and 2006 for people aged between 20 and 29. It could be suggested that these young people are mostly new arrival renters and many of them are enrolled in tertiary studies. The remainder of the population has had a negative growth in the five years from 2001.
