Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

In the 2006 Census, 93 people identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (TSI). This was 0.3% of the population and 0.8% less than the Sydney region average.

The average age of the Aboriginal and TSI population was 22 years.

There are significant differences when comparing the age bands across the indigenous and non indigenous communities. The percent rate of Aboriginals is higher across all bands but one up to 39 years and over 80% of the Aboriginal community is between the ages of 0-39 with a large proportional difference in young children 15 – 28 years.

Between the ages of 40 to 65 and over Aboriginals constitute only 18% of their total population while the spread across the non Aboriginal community is more than the 40 – 65 and over age bracket.
