Council has recognised two residential buildings and two public buildings for their heritage conservation work at the presentation of the annual Strathfield Council Heritage Conservation Awards last night.

The Awards recognise excellence in heritage conservation for building works completed in the last 12 months in the Strathfield Municipality.

Mayor of Strathfield Paul Barron said: “The nominations for the 2008 Awards were of an exceptionally high standard and I would like to congratulate all nominees for their outstanding work.

“Council’s Heritage Awards acknowledge the efforts and contributions of our local community in conserving Strathfield’s heritage, enhancing the quality of our streetscape and unique heritage character.

The recipients of the residential building awards were Andrea McKinley and Matthew Coy for their superior and sympathetic renovations and additions to a heritage listed Victorian style villa and Paul and Elena Krivoshev for their superior additions, alterations and renovations to a Federation style house.

The recipients of the public building awards were St Patrick’s College for superior renovation, restoration and adaptive reuse of the Brother Hickey Building and Australian Catholic University for outstanding heritage conservation and restoration of the Edmund Rice Building, which is an important heritage listed item in Strathfield Municipality.

Strathfield Council is one of the few metropolitan councils in NSW operating a comprehensive heritage program including incentives and financial assistance to owners of heritage properties. Council actively supports owners of heritage properties upgrading and adapting their homes to modern standards, while maintaining the heritage character of historic properties.
