Mayor’s Message
Due to the upcoming Local Government elections to be held on Saturday 13 September, Council took the decision at the August meeting not to hold the September ordinary meeting. However, in order to deal with development matters in a timely manner, Council decided to hold the Planning Committee Meeting on 9 September in accordance with Council’s usual meeting cycle.
For up-to-date information on Council meeting dates and times, visit www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au.
Additionally, the NSW Electoral Commission has opened an enquiry centre to assist voters with important information in the lead up to the Local Government elections. Residents can call 1300 135 736 toll free between 8.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday to find out their enrolment status, electorate information, pre poll and postal voting arrangements and polling place location details.
Spring Fair Returns This Month
The Strathfield Spring Fair is on Sunday 28 September at Strathfield Park from 10am-6pm. The fair will come alive with a great line-up of entertainment, free amusement rides, free pony rides, a Kidzone Tent, over 100 market stalls including environmentally friendly products, food from around the world, roving clowns and entertainers.
A free return shuttle bus service will run between Strathfield, Homebush and Flemington Stations and Strathfield Park. For the latest event information visit www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au.
Fridge Buyback Program Returns
Council is encouraging residents in the Municipality to hand in their old, inefficient working second fridge and have it collected for free as part of the “Fridge Buyback” scheme.
To qualify for the Fridge Buyback offer, second fridges must be at least 10 years old, 250 litres or larger and in working order. Householders can arrange for collection online at www.fridgebuyback.com.au or by calling the Fridge Buyback toll free hotline on 1800 708 401.
NSW Bike Week
Strathfield Council will focus on helmet awareness during NSW Bike Week (20-28 September), through a themed colouring-in competition.
Winners of the colouring-in competition will receive a $40 gift voucher to use at Burwood Cycleworld. There are 10 Council funded vouchers to be won. If winners buy a Netti helmet from Cycleworld using the voucher (RRP $59), the store will subsidise the difference meaning they pay nothing more. The friendly staff at Cycleworld will ensure helmets are correctly fitted.
For further details on the competition, visit www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au.
