About the Strathfield Council Building Design Awards
Strathfield Council seeks to encourage and promote high quality development and design within the Municipality and has initiated the Strathfield Building Design Awards to reward and recognise those property owners, designers and builders who have demonstrated such good quality design.
This annual award consists of the following categories of development;
Category 1: Single Dwelling House
New single dwelling house development.
Category 2: Single Dwelling House – alterations & additionsAlterations and additions to single dwelling houses.
Category 3: Multiple-Unit Residential Buildings
New multi-unit residential development including dual occupancies, villas, town house and multiple unit development of all densities.
Category 4: Commercial/Retail/Industrial Development
New buildings and significant alterations and additions built primarily for commercial, retail or industrial purposes.
Category 5: Public/Institutional Development
This category is for schools, churches and other institutional and public buildings.
Category 6: Sustainable Development
Development under any building category that exhibits innovation and excellence in ecological sustainability.
Judging Criteria
An independent team of judges is selected to choose the winners in each category. Judging is based on the following criteria;
- Contribution to streetscape character & context;
- Functionality;
- Innovation;
- Sustainability; and
- Construction Quality.
Eligibility
Awards are open to all owners, builders & architects who have completed projects in their respective categories within the Strathfield Municipal Council Area. Projects must have been completed in the 2 year period before calling for nominations & completed in accordance with Council approval.
