Membership of Strathfield Library is free.
If you are a resident or ratepayer of Strathfield local government area or any of these Inner West council areas - Ashfield, Burwood, Canada Bay, Leichhardt or City of Sydney visit either library branch and present two forms of personal identification, including one with your current address. Acceptable forms of identification include a drivers licence, Medicare card or credit card.
If you reside outside the Strathfield local government area or any of these Inner West council areas - Ashfield, Burwood, Canada Bay, Leichhardt or City of Sydney, visit either library branch and present your current library membership card from your own Council library as well as two forms of personal identification.
Adult Library Membership
Adult members are entitled to borrow up to 15 items on one card for 3 weeks including:
- a maximum of 2 videos or DVDs for one week
- 3 books on the one subject per student or student’s family
A maximum of 2 DVDs or 2 Videos can be issued per card. The loan period for a DVD or video is one week only and can only be renewed twice.
DVD or VHS classifications of PG and M+ will only be issued on an adult card.
Library patrons borrow DVDs and Videos at their own risk. Council takes no responsibility for any claims of damage to the patron’s personal playing device. Lost or damaged items will be charged for processing and replacement costs.
Junior Library Membership
Junior membership is available for children aged 0-11 years. Juniors are not permitted to borrow adult fiction and can borrow 15 books but limited to borrowing only 3 books on one subject. Junior members can only borrow junior CDs and DVDs.
Membership Responsibilities
Notify the library promptly if your card is lost, so no one else can borrow using your card.
- Take care of all borrowed items.
- Pay for any lost, stolen or damaged items that have been borrowed on your card.
- Ensure that no one else uses your card.
- Behave in an appropriate manner when in the library.
- Report any instances of damaged items to the library.
- Notify the library of any change of address and phone number.
Renewal of Items
Any number of items can be renewed twice, if they are not overdue. Renewals can be made personally at the circulation desk, or over the phone. If the item you wish to renew has been reserved, you will be unable to renew the item and must return the item to the Library.
Late Returns
It is your responsibility to return any items borrowed on your card to the library by the due date. Library items returned after the due date will attract a late fee for each overdue item. Until overdue items are returned and payment is made, members will be unable to borrow anything else on their card.
The library imposes overdue fees
- To improve service for our customers by ensuring books, DVDs and other library items are returned promptly, providing other users with a wider selection of resources to choose from.
- To prevent items being kept out of circulation for long periods of time.
- To provide an incentive for library borrowers to return or renew their items on time.
- To reduce the number of overdue and missing items.
- To ensure the availability of reserved items.
Reserving Items
All items not immediately available can be reserved for a charge of $2.00, which is paid on receipt of the item. You will be notified by mail when the item is available.
Returns
Books and materials can be returned during library opening hours. An out of hours return shute is also available.
