Clean-Up Guidelines

Maximum quantity of material accepted is no larger than 1.5m cubic metres.

  • Materials for collection must be placed on the nature strip as near to the street gutter as possible (no earlier and no later than) the day before
    your collection date.

  • Materials for collection must be presented neatly on the nature strip and are not to present any obstruction to the footpath or roadway.

  • Each item for collection should be of a size and bulk that is no greater than two average-sized adults can comfortably carry.

  • Households on corner blocks must leave material at the front of the premises i.e. on the street that is their address. For example, if the premises is on the corner of Homebush Rd and Redmyre Rd and the address of the premises is 65 Homebush Rd, rubbish should be left at the front of the premises in Homebush Road. If this is not possible due to safety reasons, please notify Council’s Waste Hotline on 9748 9611 at least two (2) weeks prior to your Clean-Up collection.

Only the following materials are accepted:

  • Household furniture and small appliances e.g. non-metal tables, non-metal beds, mattress, chairs, heater.

  • Tied bundles or bags of garden waste (grass clippings, leaves, weeds, prunings and small branches up to 150mm in diameter and 1m in length).

  • General household items eg clothes, books, bits and pieces.

  • Sports equipment, swing sets etc (large items must be disassembled and anything made of metal should be no longer than 1m in length).

The following materials are not accepted:

  • Trade, industrial, shop and building and demolition waste e.g. bricks, timber, concrete etc.

  • Car parts e.g. bodies, batteries, tyres, oil etc.

  • White goods and large appliances eg fridges, washing machines, ovens, water heaters etc.

  • Dangerous waste (including the empty containers) or ordinary household garbage e.g. chemicals, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, paints, oils etc.

  • Any materials not mentioned in Council’s Clean-Up Guidelines should be considered not acceptable.

Council reserves the right to refuse collection of materials.

It is important that the Clean-Up Guidelines are followed. Materials placed out contrary to the guidelines may result in the material not being collected, leaving the responsibility for removal on the owner of the material. On the spot fines of $750 can be issued for failing to comply with the guidelines and illegally dumping material.

Unwanted household items and whitegoods that are not accepted in Council’s Clean-Up can be taken to the nearest Waste Management Centre, at Chullora or Auburn. Some of these items may be taken free of charge. Please phone 1300 651 116 or visit WSNEnvironmental Solutions for details.
