Public Exhibition of Draft Final Concept Master Plan

| A | A

Following an extensive design and public consultation process to revitalise and upgrade the Strathfield Town Centre, Strathfield Council has finalised the ‘Strathfield Town Centre - Draft Final Concept Master Plan’.

Council has resolved for the draft plan to be placed on public exhibition from 7 August to 18 September 2008.

The Draft Final Concept Masterplan is the culmination of listening to the Community and their ideas, testing the practicality and feasibility of these and now presenting the final plan based on them. Council emphasises that all the ideas presented in this plan are ideas that came up through the initial consultation sessions with the Community and Stakeholders. This is part of Council’s long term commitment to revitalize and upgrade the Town Centre to be a place for all our community, as well as being a sustainable place.

The plan for the Town Centre offers the following benefits:

  • New enlarged and level town square
  • New Town Centre Park
  • A better bus interchange with improved access
  • Improved retail opportunities
  • New community facilities
  • Better access to the railway station
  • Better Kiss and Ride provision
  • Better taxi stands and access
  • Provision for cyclists in the Centre
  • Sustainable Water Management
  • Energy Efficient Design
  • Better parking
  • Improved safety and security
  • Opportunities for public art
  • Better access for the mobility impaired

The Draft Final Concept Masterplan consists of four posters, which are available on this page.

Poster 1 is the Draft Final Concept Masterplan Plan. It graphically represents the ideas and how they come together to create the new Town Centre, and is accompanied by dot point text of what could happen in the Town Centre, and things are being improved for all groups of our Community. You will see here that we have listened to the issues that were raised in the options exhibition, and tested and then incorporated your ideas for improvements.

Poster 2 is how the plan might be Implemented. It shows how both the new Bus Interchange and the accompanying development can happen together in stages, and how the Bus Interchange could start off in one simple form, but end up in a better final form with the development and agreement of other stakeholders. This poster explains what is involved in each stage, as well as outlines what could happen in the surrounding areas in the future.

Poster 3 is how the Transport could work in the Town Centre with each of the stages, and how it could look, subject to the agreement of the Bus Operators and Department of Transport. It can be seen how the proposal removes the buses from the Town Square, and in the future, from the congested stretch of Raw Square.

Poster 4 shows examples images from real places that show how aspects of the Town Centre could look and function to show you that these ideas have been built elsewhere and work.
