Strathfield Youth Achievement Awards are held each year by Strathfield Council and Strathfield Rotary. Congratulations to the following award winners for 2013.

Community Service Award
Leonardo Pane, 17 – Homebush Boys High School
Recognised for his commitment to providing the community with an important health service, Leonardo has completed 500 hours of voluntary First Aid at events such as the City2Surf and the Royal Easter Show, as well as school sporting carnivals.
Leonardo has also participated in the Strathfield Library Program, to assist members of the community with developing technological skills.
Community Service Award
Zakariyya Sheikh, 17 – Strathfield South High School
As the school captain, Zakariyya developed a compressive plan to promote Strathfield South High’s involvement with various charity organisations including Clean Up Australia Day and World’s Greatest Shave. Zak has worked hard to encourage students to offer their time to support these causes.
Zakariyya recognises the importance of addressing common issues faced by young people. He introduced a section in the school newsletter with strategies to target bullying, depression and stress.
Environment, Science and Technology Award
May Wong, 23
May is a recent Bachelor of Medicine graduate who is currently doing a Surgical Specialities rotation. In addition to this, she is involved in medical research, receiving research several scholarships from the Heart Foundation, Kidney Health Australia and Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia.
A Strathfield local, May recognises the importance of being involved in health on a local level, tutors young migrants in English on the weekends and volunteers at a Burwood General Practice Surgery.
Arts and Culture Award
Charles Carrall, 14 – St Patrick’s College, Strathfield
Having danced ballet, jazz and modern for 8 years, Charles has been involved in four school musicals during his time at St Patrick’s College.
Charles has also performed with prestigious organisations; including the Australian Ballet’s The Nutcracker and was a member of the interstate Australian ballet production of Sleeping Beauty.
Individual Sport Award – Junior
Se-Bom Lee, 11 – St Patrick’s College, Strathfield
Se-Bom was national age champion in the 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Backstroke at the 2012 Australian School Swimming Championships.
He followed up this performance by breaking 4 state records at the 2013 New South Wales Championships, in the 100m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 200m Butterfly and 200m Backstroke.
Individual Sport Award – Senior
Nicholas Dang, 16 – St Patricks College, Strathfield
A participant in Tae-kwon-Do for the past 10 years, Nicholas was selected to represent Australia in the Junior World Championships in 2012. He was one of thirty competitors in the 1st Dan Junior Division, and made it through the second round.
In December 2012, he claimed five medals, one gold, two silver and two bronze, in the Australian National Championships in Perth.
Strathfield Rotary President's Encouragement
Fadi El Sayah, 18 – Chalmers Road School
Fadi is a valuable member of the Chalmers Road School community. He assists with volunteer projects, including development of classroom resources for teachers.
As part of a program to teach students to shop independently, Fadi assists other students with developing their skills. He has taught fellow students to use the bus ticket machine and locate items in the supermarket.
