Strathfield Council in conjunction with Roads & Maritime Services and The Centre for Road Safety has launched the Look Out Before You Step Out pedestrian stencil campaign.
Aimed at improving pedestrian safety, the footpath stencils are currently being installed at strategic locations around the LGA, including schools, high density living areas, shopping precincts and transport hubs.
The stencils will target road user distraction, particularly high levels of phone and device usage immediately before and during walking.
More than 1500 pedestrians are hit on NSW roads each year.
Council is reminding everyone to take an extra moment to look out before stepping out, and always choose the safest place and time to cross.
We are all pedestrians at some point or another and we all have a role to play in reducing the road toll Towards Zero.
